New Hanover County Schools students are showcasing their passion for history and their remarkable research skills on a national stage!
Several students have qualified for the prestigious National History Day competition in June, and two students have earned an exceptional honor with their powerful project.
The Wilmington Coup and Massacre Project
Holly Shelter Middle School students Olivia Stetler and Zipporah Tunnage earned top honors in the Junior Group Exhibit category with their project exploring the 1898 Wilmington Coup and Massacre.
Their work goes beyond the competition, earning them the prestigious H.G. Jones NC History Award from the State Archives. And in an incredible twist, their project will be displayed at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C., giving them the opportunity to share their important research with the public and even get a behind-the-scenes tour of this renowned institution.
