Cold Storage Facility Update
Cold Summit Development’s cold storage facility near the Port of Wilmington is set to be completed on September 23, following a year-long delay. The facility, which was initially scheduled for completion in September 2021, was delayed by a year due to an amendment to the 2021 agreement. The deadline was extended to December 31, 2024.

Surf City Property Tax
Surf City, a Pender County beach town, plans to maintain property taxes but increase sewer and stormwater fees. The town’s largest revenue source is property taxes, but a $10 fee will be added to sewer service fees.

Water Pilot Project

Carolina Beach Non Profit Organization Awarded $144,000
Ocean Cure, a non-profit organization in Carolina Beach, has been awarded $144,000 from Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving. The group plans to use the funds to improve accessibility at local beaches, including Carolina Beach, by ordering new beach wheelchairs, beach Walkers, and adaptive surfboards. Jersey Mike’s has been using March as their month of giving for 14 years.

Anti Trust Against Novant Health

Pender County Clerk Removal Update
A judge dismissed Pender County Clerk of Court Elizabeth Craver’s removal hearing, stating her activities were not substantial enough to warrant her removal. Three of her employees, including Camille Harrell, Cassie Messer, and Madelene Trifoli, resigned. Craver was indicted on felony charges and temporarily suspended. The special proceedings are now determining her removal.
